Yes, I do work for a living, and this is page tells you all about what I do!

I am the Internet Development Manager for a large financial asset management company, working with all sorts of funky web-based solutions, mainly Microsoft such as IIS/ASP/SQL, but we're also using a lot of XML/XSLT with a product called Documentum to provide the business with an interface to put content on web sites.

Previously I was a Computer Programmer, writing custom software in Visual Basic and SQL Server, even though I was trained in C++ when gaining my BSc Joint Honors Degree in Computer Science and Electronic Engineering from University College London.

I also do a spot of Web Consultancy now and then, working with technologies such as PHP, Perl/CGI, ActiveX, Active Server Pages, Java, JavaScript and lots of other lovely flavours of web elements. I've also trained for the back-end systems such as SQL server, Exchange server, Internet Information Server (IIS) and Site Server (yes, I know they're all Microsoft products!) and have a lot of knowledge in the secuirty aspects of the internet as well.

I've created many different web sites, as well as helping people to create their own. Here's a quick summary of the sites I've created or worked on...

  • ECom-Secure. This is my company for all things web related and consultancy, specialising in providing secure e-commerce solutions. Lots of scripts, a massive database, a secure server and lots of happy customers!
  • Bike-Astur. One of our customer's sites, this website is fully dynamic and updateable through a full web interface. This contains the full package including the page editor, image editor, calendar, email form and so on. Even the Photo Gallery thumbnails get generated automatically!
  • Ducati Sporting Club. The website of the Ducati Sporting Club, I've helped out with updating the site's look from it's original design. We've also done some additions such as the Trackday Calendar which allows members to see who is booked in for what trackdays, and add their own.
  • Ducati Essex. The Essex branch of the Ducati Sporting Club have a presence on the web with information relating to this region of the club. Based on the main DSC site design, also by me.
  • OnlineNannies.co.uk. This is the website run by my wife, as a portal for both Parents to find help and Nannies to find placements.
  • UKRM.net. This is the "official" site for the uk.rec.motorcycles newsgroup, which is a great place to hang out. I wrote the Events Calendar so that we can keep track of all up-coming motorcycle and UKRM related events. It's a bit of PHP with a mySQL back-end to hold all the events which allows you to search them. It even notifies the admins by email when someone submits events and has lots of other admin-type functions.
  • James Bond Fan Site. The "official" web site for the alt.fan.james-bond newsgroup, I created the rather whizzy navigation bar for this, as well as the online poll system.
  • Hannant's Model Shop. This site took around 3 months to develop, but most of that was due to Service Provider cock-ups and me having to tell them how to configure things! This was a joint effort with Steve Barber at the Design Solution who created all the tasty graphics and the layout. I wrote the scripts, in Perl, and also a Visual Basic front end to a database which the pages are created from. Quite a good project this one and you'd never guess that it was written way back in 1995!
  • Eastern Counties Newspapers Group. One of my first real web jobs! Created a load of pages for the initial site which went live in 1996, but has since been taken over by someone else who have made quite a nice job of it. I did this in my summer holidays from University!! (Whaddaya mean you can tell!)

I've also worked on many other sites which I can't tell you about, and also sites which don't exist anymore, such as the famous Mortal Kombat WWW Site, hailed as the best site for the videogame Mortal Kombat. You can probably still read about it on review sites, as they're always slow to update! It was featured in several international publications and led to some work with my good friends over at Williams/Bally/Midway.
