Welcome! Welcome to the Ducati pages at Horrible.Demon - a place where you can find some links and useful information about Ducati and also my current motorbike, a Ducati 748S. The S model sits between the 748E (entry) and 748R (racing). It basically has a whole load of trick bits compared to the E (Showa forks/shock, grey 5 spoke Marchesini light-weight wheels, grey frame, etc) without the engine internals of the R. I bought the 748S in January 2002 from a friend who had owned the bike from new for just over a year and a half. He had originally bought the 748 instead of an R6, but never got on with it and ended up buying a new R6 as well, so the Duke had to go. | ||||||||

The bike was a bargain and came with loads of trick bits already on it. I've also added a few bits and pieces, so the modification list includes:
Here are some (updated) pictures to give you a view of the bike: |

Ducati On Tour! This is a pic on the way out to France for the May Bank Holiday weekend. I fitted a Pyramid double-bubble screen and a Ventura luggage kit, both from Busters Accessories, to make it easier to tour. The screen really does make a difference as it pushes the airflow over your head rather than it hitting you right in the face. Crouching behind the screen I saw 150mph on the speedo, but there was one hell of a headwind which meant I couldn't get it any higher. Some more pics of the double-bubble screen, by popular demand! |

Track Day: Snetterton These are some pics from the first track day I did on the 748. The V-twin is really weird on the track compared to an inline four or even the little RVF400 I did a previous track day on, and it took some getting used to - especially not locking the rear or making it hop like mad when changing down! The brakes are phenomenal though, giving so much feel and so much stopping power it was unbelievable. As you can see, I'm still getting used to the lean of the bike (it's a long way!) and I also had two new BT010s on the bike. Still didn't GMKD and the chicken-strips are 2mm from the edge, but it will come! |

How about a home-made Rev Light? I've decided to build my own LED rev counter, which you can find out all about on this page, mainly because I'm too tight to buy one, but also because it'll be a fun little winter project. |

July 2004 - Long Time No Update It's been nearly a year since the last page update here, mainly due to other projects and work getting in the way. To answer some questions:
More later. Probably. |

Oct 2004 - Quick Update It went bounce, bounce, crunch, tinkle as it slid down the road :-( First off in 5 years and I did quite well, but it's almost back in one piece. Unfortunately it was in the road kit which meant it's expensive in trying to replace the parts (new l/h fairing, top fairing, headlight, tank) but luckily I still have the trackday fairing which I needed for Rockingham track day on the 10th September! Checkout those pics - I now need a new set of sliders (both sides!) after just one day! |

March 2005 The racing has taken over, but I've still managed to do a trackday at Brands Hatch on the 748 as the DesmoDue racebike wasn't ready in time, and I needed to learn the track. They made me wear a bright yellow bib as it was my first time at Brands, but I think it was quite cool! The Sparco adjustable rearsets worked a treat as I was running out of ground clearance round Clark Curve, coming onto the start/finish straight, and kept grinding my toe sliders. Moving the pegs up a touch fixed that. A good day with lots of other DSC members and racers in the DesmoDue series, plus I managed to learn the track quite well too. |
